The Caligulas

Terms

The Caligulas operates from Sydney, Australia. Use of this site is subject to the terms set out below.

The institution

The Caligulas is an independent counter-award institution. The institution publishes a formal register of figures whose conduct in positions of power has caused documented harm, and accepts contributions which are held until the end of each cycle and then disbursed to charitable organisations whose work directly opposes that conduct.

Contributions

A contribution made through this site is a charitable donation to The Caligulas. The contribution is recorded as a vote against the selected nominee. The amount of the contribution determines the number of votes cast, in accordance with the published tier structure.

All contributions are processed by Stripe. The donor agrees to Stripes terms at the point of payment. Refunds may be requested within seven days of donation by writing to info@caligulas.org. After this period, contributions are non-refundable, as the institution undertakes operational commitments based on funds held.

Citations and the public record

All citations published on this site are drawn from the public record and supported by independent reputable sources. The institution provides a formal Right of Reply procedure for nominees and their retained legal representatives, documented on the Right of Reply page. Approved responses are published in full alongside the citation they address.

The institution does not republish or reproduce copyrighted content. Excerpts from third-party sources, where used in citations, are reproduced under fair dealing for the purposes of criticism, review, and reporting of news, as recognised under Australian copyright law.

Conduct on the site

The site does not host user-generated content. The Right of Reply form, where used, does not write to the institutions database. Users of the site agree not to attempt to circumvent the security of the site, not to scrape the site beyond the limits of robots.txt, and not to use the site for any unlawful purpose.

Limitation of liability

The site and its content are provided as a public record. The institution makes no warranty as to fitness for any particular purpose other than the publication of the institutional record. To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, the institution excludes liability for any indirect, consequential, or special loss arising from use of this site.

Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute arising under these terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.

Updates

These terms will be reviewed and updated by counsel prior to the close of the inaugural cycle. The substance of the institutions practice will not change. The formal wording may be revised.
