The Caligulas

Privacy

The Caligulas operates from Sydney, Australia. The institution complies with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) where applicable.

A plain-English account of what is and is not held by the institution appears on the Your Data page. The summary below sets out the institutions privacy practice in formal terms.

What information the institution collects

The institution collects only the information necessary to operate the register and to record contributions. This is limited to: the name of a donor (if the donor has chosen to be publicly recorded), an optional public statement (if the donor has chosen to submit one), the amount and time of each contribution, the nominee against which each contribution is recorded, and a Stripe session identifier used for reconciliation. The institution does not collect donor email addresses, billing addresses, payment information, or any contact information about people who choose anonymous contributions.

How information is used

Information held by the institution is used to display the public record of contributions on nominee pages, to calculate the disbursement of funds at cycle conclusion, and to maintain the institutions records in compliance with Australian law. Information is not used for marketing, is not sold or transferred to third parties, and is not used to profile or track any individual.

Information held by Stripe

Donations are processed by Stripe Payments Australia Pty Ltd. Stripe collects and holds donor identity, billing, and contact information under its own privacy policy, which the donor agrees to at the point of donation. The institution does not access, retain, or join this information to its own records. Stripes privacy policy is available at https://stripe.com/au/privacy.

Cookies and tracking

The site does not use third-party tracking cookies. The site does not run analytics services that profile individual visitors. Essential session cookies may be used by Stripe during the checkout process, under Stripes own policy.

Access and correction

Where the institution holds information that is identifiable to a specific person (for example, where a donor has chosen to be publicly named), that person may request access to or correction of that information by writing to info@caligulas.org.

Complaints

Complaints about the institutions handling of personal information may be made in writing to info@caligulas.org. Complaints not resolved by the institution may be referred to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Updates

This policy will be reviewed and updated by counsel prior to the close of the inaugural cycle. The substance of the institutions data minimisation practice will not change. The formal wording may be revised.
